Constandinos (Costa) Bakouros Constandinos (Costa) Bakouros graduated from Branham High School. He plans to attend either Santa Clara University or St. Mary's University, but has been offered acceptance at several schools. Costa is an active volunteer in his community. In his essay, Costa wrote the following about what Dr. King's dream means to him: "I value the idea of dreams becoming reality. If one man can lead the way to overcome a tremendous amount of hardship, I can surely see the light at the end of the tunnel of my dream." |

Amanda Dennis Amanda Dennis graduated from Novo Community Day School. She plans to attend San Jose City College. Amanda is an active volunteer in his community. In her essay, which Amanda subtitled "Change is Good" she wrote the following about what Dr. King's dream means to her: "Dr. King is a role model to me because he changed his own life and the lives of others as well. I hope that one day I can do the same, and help change someone else's life for the better." |

Maria Lara-Hernandez Maria Lara-Hernandez graduated from Yerba Buena High School. She plans to attend San Jose State University. Amanda is an active volunteer in her community. In her essay Maria wrote the following about what Dr. King's dream means to her: "His dream is for others not just himself, and so is mine. His dream shows equality, so does mine. His dream proves a point, and I assure you, mine does too … with hard work and confidence [you can] take the dream to a whole other level …" |

Rachel Reese Rachel Reese is continuing the pursuit of her educational goals at Foothill College. Rachel has received a Certificate of Excellence and an Outstanding Achievement Award from Foothill. In her essay, Rachel wrote the following about what Dr. King's dream means to her: "It only takes one person to make a change … I am even more determined to be an example of a leader and a walking testimony. Live for right, do right, and be a winning champion for life and that is breaking the barrier of race, age and hatred in America and all over the world." |

Yasmin Rios Yasmin Rios is continuing the pursuit of her educational goals at DeAnza College and plans to transfer to San Jose State University. Yasmin is an active volunteer in her community. In her essay, Yasmin wrote the following about what Dr. King's dream means to her: "… I know that the path for me is to get an education. Education is the great equalizer. With the opportunity to educate myself, I too create the opportunity for Dr. King's "Dream" to live on. It's almost like 'paying it forward.' By advancing I will have the capacity to help others realize their potential and dream." |

Danielle Serrano Danielle Serrano graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School and plans to attend Brown University. Danielle is an active volunteer in her community. In her essay, Danielle wrote the following about what Dr. King's dream means to her: "Yet as inspiration, Dr. Martin Luther King exemplifies determination and certain fearful obstacles. He was able to question set rules, and by doing so changed his course of events. As I continue to struggle with the given obstacles that I am faced, I search for his words as guidance, finding my lost voice within." |
